Here's What You Need From My Store

This Sight Word Package has 140 worksheets with reading, writing (tracing and writing) and a cut and paste section for reinforcement of reading vocabulary words. These PCI Reading Program words give kids that extra bit of practice after they have learned the words in the program OR it can be used without the PCI Reading Program as all of the words are also on the DOLCH sight word list.

The beginning of the year brings assessment time to get a basal line for the beginning of year. This Alphabet Assessment Package includes 4 different assessments for the alphabet recognition and identification with both upper and lower case. These progress monitoring sets include sets for testing letters in isolation or in groups of 2, 3, and 4 other letters. Data sheets are also included or you may use your own. Its all set up to start a data sheet for a student and continue periodic assessment throughout the year.

This set of Behavioral Supports includes general visuals useful in Special Education rooms as well as inclusion. Some of the items inside it are:
1-5 token "I'm working for card"
1-10 token I'm working for card"
1-15 token I'm working for card"
1 FIRST THEN card
1 page of penny tokens
1 page of dinosaur tokens
50 schedule and behavior cards to use with "I'm working for cards", and FIRST THEN cards.

Here is what's in my cart
This is a teacher's dream come true!  I have taught for many years, but have always done my classroom set up by myself. Sometimes  I had other Special Education teachers in my school that could help me with ideas, but other times, I was all by myself for ideas as to how to set up a classroom for children with disabilities so that it works well for everyone.  LOVE THIS!!!

Several of my kiddos have a hard time retaining recognition and name of the alphabet letters. I am always looking for ways to reinforce these skills.
This products has a color section AND a bingo dauber portion!  YIPPEE!
These Alphabet Find and Daub from Erin Hagey from You AUT-a Know will make it fun for the kids and an easy activity for a center or work station. SUPER IDEA!

As a TPT seller I love creating my products and buying clip art and other items needed to dress up those products to make them appealing to students and buyers.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE buying clip art...oh yeah...already said that. These little skinny borders by Sonya DeHart at Sonya DeHart Design fit so easily on a page and dress it up while not cluttering it. AWESOME!!!

Thank you for stopping by. Be sure to check out the other links in the What's In Your Cart Linky.

Blog Hop #3 Back to School Forms

Hi everybody and welcome back to the summer blog hop!
Hope your summers are going well!
What fun has everybody been having?
Some of the initial forms I use are those that I shared in Week 1 of our Bloghop such as class scheduling and staffing schedules, so be sure to go back if you missed them.

After I have scheduled the day and where I want all the kids and paraprofessional(s) to be (see week one of this hop), its time to turn my attention to other Back To School forms I may need.
IEP TRACKING FORMS
One of the most important forms I  need each year is something to track goal/objective progress for the students. This one below if a quick and easy one with date and goals/objectives listed on the left hand side. I type the goals in bold font and the objective in regular font to differentiate between them quickly. The other side of the form has number correct/incorrect on work they have completed for that goal/objectives and a last column for comments written by the adult that worked with them on the skill.

I like to have several copies of these forms for each student and while it may not seem to be the most efficient, I provide copies to my paras as well as myself. This makes multiple copies but I do it because I have each adult meet with every student in some way every day and I want the data sheets to be totally accessible to them at the moment. This way everyone can record data as soon as it occurs. I tend to work this way just because of the makeup of my class each year. Some years I can place one set of forms in a central location and everyone can record on one form.
SCHOOL/HOME COMMUNICATION FORMS
One of the most important forms I find during the year is the homeschool communication form. One of the most important forms for back to school I use is a Home/School Communication. This is a form I develop based on the needs of the students and parents each year to maintain daily communication of what their child is doing in the class. I frequently had at least one student in my class each year that was non-verbal and several others that while they could talk, had a difficult time sharing information with their parents about what went on at school. A form like the one above is an example of one I have used. It includes specifically selected portions of the students school day with checkoff items about that section in the box. For example, in the box for Communication, it might say "I used my Words today", "I used Picture symbols" or "I used Gestures". These are just the items I needed for the student I last used these with.

I thought I would share several of the forms I have used with you. Depending on the makeup of my class, I occasionally use the same form for the entire class, but more often I make forms that fit each child and use those. Sometimes the forms for Home/School Communication are based on classroom activities such as this one below.

This form is set up for 2 weeks and is based on the theme for the classroom of YOU ARE A STAR! that I used that particular year. It is designed to be a quick number assessment system of reporting behavior to the parents on a daily basis. The behaviors on this form corresponded to our class rules and the form left room for both teacher and parent to write short notes if needed.

These are the most important types of forms each year for me. Don't forget to hop through all of our blogs this week for great ideas for BTS forms.

2 For Tuesday

Happy TUESDAY everyone!

I am really excited to bring you two really great products for this week's Two For Tuesday!
One of today's products focuses on greater than and less than. Those sometimes dreaded symbols that students have difficulty distinguishing between. Although I have most recently been teaching Special Education, I have also taught general education for many years. Even in general education, the more than and less than skill has been a topic that can difficult for students to grasp. It often seems to require skills that their young brains aren't quite old enough to grasp just yet. However we are faced with teaching this skills to younger and younger students each year as the standards are amended and moved to a younger age. So what are some tricks and tips to help students with this skill?
One of the difficulties in learning this skill is remembering which sign <, > is which. I know it took me awhile when I was in school. Anyone else have that difficulty?
Everyone probably knows the cute alligator signs to help the kids remember which sign means less than and which is greater than. With the alligator signs, the larger number of course always go in the alligator's mouth
One thing I have done in the past to help students remember the difference between these two symbols is begin by giving them a manipulative they can actually use between two numbers when they are first learning the skill.

In order to do this, I have made "alligator jaws" in many different ways. Here are some of the ways that have worked for me.
  1. One of the most successful and durable was using 2 popsicle sticks or tongue depressors. I would join the 2 sticks at one end with hot glue making certain the opposite end was open wide to symbolize the open mouth of the gator. Depending on the age of my students at the time, we would sometimes draw teeth on them or use a black marker to draw the signs on the sticks.
  2. On other occasions we gave the symbols names such as Greta Greater Than and Lucy Less Than.
  3. As I moved up in grade levels, of course the alligator was looked on by some kids as childish so I would move directly to the symbols themselves. Colors often help jog memories about things so I assigned colors to the symbols - such as coloring greater than  green and less than was colored lavender.
What ways have YOU used to help students with this skill? I would love to hear from you!
In honor of greater than and less than , one of my 2 for Tuesday giveaways today is a discounted game for practicing the skill. Be sure and check it out in my TPT  Terrific Tuesday Store or click the graphic below.
The other product that's on sale this week, continues from our last few weeks of practice activities for sight words. I have included another set of review sight word practice. These worksheets have multiple ways to practice sight words on each page. They range from tracing and reading,  to writing and also matching words written in different fonts.
Check them out! They are discounted for just this week.
