Hi! Let me introduce myself.
I am Mary Ann Reeve.

Where I've Been ... How did I get here?
I have worked in the education field for 35 years, mostly in special education. After teaching a resource special education classroom I decided to teach general education to explore whether I could implement what I wanted to see for my special education kids, in a regular classroom as well. I ended up staying in 4th grade for 6 years then taught 5th, 6th, and 2nd. I loved teaching a whole group of students versus the resource model where the kids go in and out so much.  Yet, my heart ached for my first love, special education. So  I decided to return to the root of my education training; special education. Its where I feel at home!

I graduated from Florida Southern College with a degree in Specific Learning Disabilities
K-12 and Elementary Education. I returned to school shortly after graduating and received my certification in Early Childhood.  After returning to Special Education, I found another special group of kids to teach. I found working with children with autism, the supreme challenge and an even better reward, so I once again, returned to school and earned my Autism Endorsement.

NOW

Currently I am teaching a Varying Exceptionalities self-contained classroom of students  with Intellectual Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Hearing Impaired, Vision Impaired, and Behavior Disorders. This special group ranges in grade levels from Kindergarten through 5th grade.

I believe that if a student isn't learning, we need to meet that student on their level and teach them the way they do learn.
Outside of teaching, I enjoy reading, technology, photography, and my pugs Kismet and Jake.

--> Ever just know you were in the place you were supposed to be, doing what you were supposed to do?
Well, I have!  I have always felt that teaching is what I was meant to do in life and special education kids are the lives I'm supposed to touch. I guess it comes from growing up in a family that has been involved in education for many years. Both my grandfathers were involved in education; one was a school board member and the other started as a teacher and worked his way up to superintendent. My aunt, Cora, was a very special influence on my becoming a teacher. She was the first Special Education teacher, I knew and you pair that with an older sister with special needs and VOILA! You get a special education teacher in the making. ME!
Fast Forward to the present... and here we are today... on a blog.
What's this blog about, you asked? What can you get out of it?
I have been teaching for a long time and hopefully I have a few tidbits to share that may help you in your teaching with your students, but I would like this to be a place that has a lot of information about teaching; tips, giveaways, freebies and sharing.
